Éclat: Part 67

Avatar eclatcrew | June 1, 2021

And we're back after a short programming break!

This is a very traditional Éclat challenge, to get us back into the feel of making music after our spring break. Thanks to one of the Music Making forums I'm in, I came across a folder simply entitled Jungle.zip.... a verifiable cornucopia of Jungle breaks, stabs, and hits, direct from the late 1990s! From this feast of riches, I have selected some of the weirder, stranger sounds (plus a couple of more traditional breaks) for us to use this evening.

Tonight's challenge:
ALL YOUR DRUMS must come from the sounds included in this folder!

You can use any other synths, samples, or instruments you'd like for the rest of your track, but when it comes to drums and percussion, everything has to come from this folder. You don't have to make D&B or Jungle; you can chop, mangle and twist the samples in any way you choose, but they have to be these samples.

If you make ambient music, or music without drums, you should still use some of these samples in some way; try stretching or warping them, or putting them into a granular synthesiser, for some weird effects.

If you'd like to also download the full Jungle.zip archive, you can do so here, but for tonight's challenge you can ONLY choose from the samples in the other link.

If you want to learn how to build a D&B beat, check out this tutorial from Attack Mag (or check out any of the other beat breakdowns for just about any other genre you can imagine!)
